June is a busy month in the art world, especially in Europe. As spring evolves into summer, the creative side of cities blossoms, bringing with it a jam-packed calendar of art fairs and events. As June is nearly upon us (how did that happen?!), I’ve compiled a selection of the best art events in Europe for your perusing and use. PhotoEspaña
When? 4th June – 27th July 2014
Where? Madrid
What? If you’re a big photography fan, then this is the place to be. PhotoEspaña is Madrid’s blow out photography event. As part of the International Festival of Photography and Visual Arts of Madrid, you can also explore numerous different kinds of artwork outside of the realms of the photograph. Madrid is an arty city at the best of times (the Golden Triangle of museums anyone?), but when this event is in town creativity goes through the roof.
LOOP Fair
When? 5th June – 7th June 2014
Where? Barcelona
What? Moving from still photography to moving image, LOOP fair is the first art fair ever that’s dedicated solely to film and video. Pop along to Gaudi’s city for a couple of days to discover and discuss some of the top moving image artists in the world.
VOLTA
When? 16th June – 21st June 2014
Where? Basel
What? Basel is the king of all things art, right? Art Basel is huge event that takes place every year, and VOLTA is a big part of that. Here, you can get to grips with some of the world’s most talented emerging artists and wander amongst some of the best-known works of art of the moment.
LISTE Art Fair
When? 17th June – 22nd June 2014
Where? Basel, again
What? Another segment of Art Basel is the LISTE Art Fair, which is dedicated to showcasing the works of new artists. Hosting new galleries and exhibiting fresh, young talent, LISTE is the place to go if you want to discover some of the world’s newest leading contemporary art.
SCOPE
When? 17th June – 22nd June 2014
Where? Yup, it’s Basel again
What? Running parallel to the LISTE Art Fair, SCOPE is a fair promoting the works of artists from seven different markets around the world. This global segment of Art Basel introduces visitors to numerous different contemporary styles from hot new artists from all over the planet.

What? I told you Basel was busy in June, didn’t I? Well, here’s another event taking place there next month. PrintBasel is the place to be if you’re into graphic art, like me.

Where? How did you guess?
What? This is perhaps the piece a la resistance for June. The big boy itself, if you will. Art Basel is one of the most renowned art fairs in the world, and this year it is uniting more than 300 of the top galleries from numerous different countries. This international art show is not one to miss if you’re in the area!
Masterpiece Art Fair
When? 26th June – 2nd July 2014
Where? London
What? Phew, we’re finally stepping away from Basel. Just as well, before we get all arted out (is that even possible?!). At the end of the month, the art fairs move into London with the Masterpiece event showcasing some of the best art and design the world has to offer.

What? We’re sticking around in London for the START fair, which is held at the world famous Saatchi Gallery. Here, you can explore contemporary works of the highest order, and get to know the prominent art scene in England’s capital.
