If you follow the Facebook page, you’ll know that I’ve spent the past couple of weeks in South Africa, exploring some creative ideas on the other side of the world.
I have a series of posts lined up from my time away, but want to start by introducing you to Clarens, an arty town situated near the northern border of Lesotho. It has 23 art galleries dotted around a village green, which is more than any other town in the country. It boasts a laidback, creative atmosphere where you can wile away the hours wandering amongst a plethora of artistic representations ranging from decorative rugs to modern fine art.
Almost all of the artists whose work is on display are local to Clarens, or live nearby amidst the beautiful surrounding scenery. There is a very personal feel to each and every gallery and in many you can request to speak to the artist if they are available.
It’s safe to say that Clarens is heaven for any art lover.
I’d like to point out that this is a generic post highlighting some of my favourite artists from around the town. Let me know which pieces you like best and I can put together some more indepth articles on those.
I hope you enjoy these artistic lovelies as much as I do!

Galleries to check out
If you ever find yourself in little old Clarens, there’s an art route that you can follow through the town. These were some of my favourite galleries:
- The Blou Donki
- The Addy & Hoyle Gallery
- The Johan Smith Art Gallery
- The Richard Rennie Art Gallery
- Art & Wine
Which of these pieces do you like best? Would you like to go to Clarens to check out all the lovely art?
