Russian artist Sasha Vinogradova combines life with death in a series of russian folk paintings presented on skulls. She says that the medium used provides a different angle from which to look at traditional folk art, in a ‘fun and new’ way, and it draws parallels with Día de Muertos, or the Day of the Dead, which celebrates death. Each skull features a different style of Russian folk art, including Gorodets, Gzhel, North-Dvina, Zhostovo, Mezen, and Khokhloma.
The outcome? A series of colourful, playful paintings with a ‘deadly’ undertone.
